Abortion is often offered as a “quick fix” solution for an unplanned pregnancy. However, many women are left wondering why the sense of relief they imagined feeling has been eclipsed by sadness, regret, and heartbreak.
Perhaps you’ve been there. Maybe your abortion was yesterday or maybe it was ten years ago. For many women, the pain caused by abortion feels a lot like the grief of loss and comes in waves when you least expect it.
If you’re experiencing complicated emotions related to abortion, there is help and hope available to you! Here at Colorado Springs Pregnancy Center, we believe it’s never too early or too late to begin your journey toward healing from abortion.
If you’re struggling with an abortion in your past, we’re here to help!
What are some common emotional side effects following an abortion?
While every woman is different, these are a few emotional side effects you may experience after your abortion:
– Sense of loss
– Suicidal thoughts
– Difficulty bonding with their partner or children
– Eating disorders
If you’re experiencing any of the above side effects, it’s important to remember you’re not alone and there is help available to you!
What is a post-abortion recovery group?
Many women who have chosen abortion in the past have kept it largely to themselves — perhaps choosing to not tell anyone — causing them to feel even more alone in their pain.
As you begin your healing journey and deal with the emotions that resulted from your abortion, it’s important to share your experience with others.
Abortion recovery support groups provide a way for you to process your feelings, emotions, and experiences with others who know what you’re going through.
Colorado Springs Pregnancy Center’s post-abortion recovery group, Bridges of Hope, is a 9-week group for women who have experienced abortion. Throughout this program, a trained and caring facilitator will lead the group through topics like anger, guilt, depression, and forgiveness. This program is free to attend.
Are there post-abortion recovery options for men?
There is also help available to men dealing with the repercussions of an abortion in their past. While it’s often not discussed, men can experience very real pain and regret as a result of abortion. If that’s you, we’re here to help!
Through one-on-one support with a male facilitator, Bridges of Hope provides men with a safe space to process and seek healing.
