Following an abortion, many women initially experience relief. The perceived crisis is over and life returns to normal. However, for many women, the crisis is not over. Months, even years later, significant problems may develop. Women who have experienced abortion may develop the following symptoms:
- Sense of loss
- Suicidal Thoughts
- Difficulty bonding with partner or children
- Eating disorders
For those struggling after an abortion:
YOU ARE NOT ALONEPost abortion stress is real. If you or someone you know develops any of these symptoms, we offer confidential support through our post abortion recovery program Bridges of Hope. Whether it has been days, months or even years since the abortion, many women and men are affected by their abortion(s) at some point in their life.
Bridges of Hope is a 9-week group comprised of women who have experienced abortion. This is a safe and confidential environment where they can begin the healing process. The group meets 2 hours each week for 9 weeks. Some of the topics covered include: anger, guilt, depression and forgiveness. Trained and caring facilitators assist in leading both Bridges of Hope and Good Grief. There is no cost to attend.
For men who may be struggling with a decision that was made regarding an abortion, Bridges of Hope also offers one on one support with a male facilitator. This pain can often be just as real for a man who must deal with a past abortion.
